Last Friday, our JHS 3 students stepped into the kitchen to put their culinary skills to the test during an exciting cooking practical session! This session was designed to help students build practical life skills, teamwork, and creativity, and it did not disappoint.

Delicious Dishes, Teams, and Teamwork

The students were divided into three groups, each tasked with preparing a variety of traditional Ghanaian dishes. The results were nothing short of impressive!

  • Group 1 prepared fufu with groundnut soup and goat meat, along with yam and palava sauce with eggs.

  • Group 2 tackled banku and pepper with grilled tilapia, mastering the delicate balance of flavors and textures.

  • Group 3 joined forces with the others to create sobolo, a refreshing hibiscus drink that perfectly complemented the rich, hearty dishes.

Watching the students in action was a delight — from measuring ingredients and stirring pots, to seasoning to taste, every step reflected dedication and teamwork.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This practical session went beyond cooking. Students developed:

  • Teamwork skills: Working in groups to coordinate and execute dishes.

  • Time management: Preparing multiple dishes under supervision.

  • Creativity: Experimenting with traditional flavors and presentation.

  • Practical life skills: Learning to cook staple dishes they can enjoy at home.

The kitchen was alive with laughter, energy, and the enticing aromas of traditional Ghanaian cuisine. It was a truly immersive learning experience that combined hands-on practice with cultural appreciation.

A Day to Remember

By the end of the session, the students proudly shared their creations, tasting and celebrating the delicious results of their hard work. From fufu and groundnut soup to banku with tilapia, and the refreshing sobolo, each dish reflected skill, care, and collaboration.

We are proud to see our students embracing learning by doing, building confidence in the kitchen while strengthening their appreciation for Ghanaian culinary heritage.

Stay tuned for more updates as our students continue to explore practical skills and creative learning experiences at Christ Heritage School!
